KABUL, March 31 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan government said that a prisoners swap between it and the Taliban scheduled to take place today has been postponed since the latter's delegation failed to show.

On Sunday, the Afghan government and the Taliban side held a video conference, where the Taliban agreed to send on Tuesday their technical team to Kabul, and the government would host the Taliban team in Bagram to continue work on the prisoners release.

The Taliban has demanded the release of 5,000 detainees as a pre-condition to peace talks while the Afghan government is seeking a phased and conditional release.

Under the Doha deal the insurgents signed with the United States last month for a U.S. troop withdrawal, the government agreed to release 5,000 Taliban prisoners and Taliban agreed to free 1,000 Afghan security personnel.
