ABUJA, April 2 (Xinhua) -- A multinational force comprising troops from Nigeria, Chad, and Niger, said on Thursday they have launched a new joint operation to root out terror group Boko Haram from the enclaves where they are currently hibernating.

In a statement released by its Nigerian spokesman, Bernard Onyeuko, the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) identified the Boko Haram hideouts in Nigeria and Tunbuns Island on the fringes of Lake Chad, saying the days of Boko Haram were numbered.

The terror group relocated to the Tunbuns Islands from where they coordinated attacks on soft targets "following massive bombardment by the Nigerian troops," according to the statement.

"The MNJTF have launched a coordinated joint offensive to dislodge and completely rid the Islands (Tunbuns) of Lake Chad of any Boko Haram/ Islamic State West Africa Province presence and activities," it said.

The multinational force said aside from the combined operations, troops will sustain and equally engage in the conduct of simultaneous blocking operations aimed at decimating the terrorists who are escaping the onslaught at the Lake Chad general area.
