Zambia records first COVID-19 death

LUSAKA, April 2 (Xinhua) -- Zambia on Thursday recorded its first death from COVID-19 as the number of cases increased.

The deceased had been receiving treatment in a private hospital even before he was found to have the COVID-19 for his respiratory health problems.

The Zambian minister said the patient died in the early hours of Thursday.

Meanwhile Zambia has recorded three more confirmed cases, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 39.

The health minister said more than 100 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours among people quarantined and this was where the three were picked from.

The Zambian minister expressed concern the country has started seeing an increase in local transmission and called for increased efforts to curb the rise.
