Nepalese government sets up fund to fight COVID-19

KATHMANDU, April 2 (Xinhua) -- Nepal has collected a total of 247.37 million Nepali Rupees (2 million U.S. dollars) in its "Coronavirus Control and Treatment Fund" as of Wednesday evening, according to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM).

Amounts contributed by different organizations, companies and individuals ares being collected in the fund set up by the government as a preparedness to contain the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Data shows that Ncell Pvt Ltd, a telecommunication company has contributed the most with 100 million Nepali Rupees (0.81 million U.S. dollars) as donation to the government led fund.

The government has also been receiving donations from individuals and organizations including banks and financial institutions, government bodies, schools, hospitals, among others. Former King Gyanendra Shah, President Bidhya Devi Bhandari and all members of parliament from Nepali Congress Party and Rastriya Janata party have also made donations.
