NEW DELHI, April 3 (Xinhua) -- Unidentified gunmen shot dead a civilian in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said Friday.
The incident happened on late Thursday evening at a village in Anantnag district, about 55 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
"Last evening unidentified gunmen shot dead a shopkeeper outside his house," a police official said. "We are being told the gunmen entered the house and asked him to come out. No sooner he stepped out, they fired bullets on him."
The patient was sent to hospital but declared dead, the police official added.
Soon after the shooting, government forces cordoned off the area and launched searches to nab the assailants. However, no arrests were made until the last reports poured in.
This is the third such killing in the region within a span of 24 hours.
On Wednesday night two civilians were shot dead in adjacent Kulgam district.
