ISTANBUL, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Municipal workers in full protective gear on Thursday disinfected a spice bazaar in Istanbul, one of the most significant tourism spots, against COVID-19 ahead of its reopening next week.

Over a dozen of workers carried out sanitization works in the Spice Bazaar in the Eminonu neighborhood of the European part of Istanbul.

The team used a specific disinfectant that has no harm to people's and animals' health, the Fatih Municipality said at a statement.

The bazaar will open its doors on June 1 as part of normalization from COVID-19 restrictions in the country.

Constructed in 1660, the market's Turkish name, Misir Carsisi (Egyptian Bazaar), has over 85 shops selling various types of spices, Turkish delight, souvenirs, and dried fruits.
