ISTANBUL, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Turkey's biggest city Istanbul on Wednesday adopted a series of new restrictions as part of the government's efforts to stem the surging daily number of COVID-19 cases.

The Istanbul governor's office said at a written statement that citizens, without any exception, should wear their masks in public places, streets, avenues, parks, gardens, picnic areas, beaches, public transport, workplaces, and factories all the time.

Previously, the rule of wearing a mask in the country's biggest city with a population of 16 million included some exceptions.

The statement also noted that public buses and shared taxis, known as Dolmus in Turkish, wouldn't be permitted to accept standing passengers while metro and trams would allow up to 50 percent of the standing capacity of each vehicle.

Meanwhile, all kinds of music in restaurants, cafes, and bars were also banned in the city after midnight to restrain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in line with the circular of the Interior Ministry, which was issued the previous day for all the provinces across the country. Enditem
