BUDAPEST, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Hungary added 476 COVID-19 cases on Thursday, taking the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 10,191, according to the government's coronavirus information website.
There are 234 COVID-19 patients being treated in hospital at present, 11 of whom are on ventilators. To date, there have been 3,990 recoveries and 630 fatalities.
The increase in confirmed cases goes parallel with the rise in the number of tests conducted.
"The number of coronavirus tests performed on ambulances has tripled in recent days," said Gabor Csato, director of the National Ambulance Service (OMSZ), on Hungarian public radio MR1.
Not wearing a face mask or wearing it incorrectly while using public transport in the Hungarian capital will result in a fine of 8,000 Hungarian forints (26.5 U.S. dollars), the Budapest City Council said on Wednesday.
The reason for the latest tightening of rules is that by the second half of the summer, mask compliance had decreased, with only 85-odd percent of passengers on public transport covering their mouth and nose. In May, however, compliance was close to 100 percent, according to the authorities. Enditem
