Malaysia reports 710 new COVID-19 cases, 10 new deaths

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia reported 710 new COVID-19 infections, the health ministry said on Friday, bringing the national total to 24,514.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that one of the new cases is imported and 709 are local transmissions, 528 of which were reported in the state of Sabah.

Another 10 new deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 214.

Another 467 patients have been released after recovery, bringing the total cured and discharged to 15,884, or 64.8 percent of all cases.

Of the remaining 8,416 active cases, 90 are being held in intensive care and 28 of those are in need of assisted breathing.
