KABUL, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Several terrorist attacks including car bomb, roadside bomb and suicide attack claimed the lives of 16 people including seven attackers in Afghanistan on Tuesday, officials confirmed.

In the latest violent incident, a roadside bomb struck a car in Siory district of the southern Zabul province on Tuesday evening killing four civilians aboard and injuring three others, provincial police chief Hekmatullah Kuchi said.

Earlier in the day, a magnetic bomb went off inside a car in PD 10 of Kabul city at around 2:00 p.m. local time, leaving three civilians dead and injuring 10 others including some passersby, Kabul police spokesman Ferdaus Faramarz told Xinhua.

Meanwhile, the residents of Khost city, the capital of eastern Khost province, were shocked when a car bomb followed by suicide attack and gun shoots rattled the city.

According to Interior Ministry spokesman Tareq Arian, the militants detonated a car bomb next to the wall of the compound of a Special Police Force base at 5:50 a.m. local time, enabling a suicide bomber to blow himself up and facilitating others to enter the compound and begin firing.

As a result of firefight and blasts, seven attackers and two policemen were killed and 25 others including nine civilians were injured, and the gun battle lasted for a while, according to Arian.

Although no group has claimed responsibility, the official did not rule out the involvement of the Taliban group for the deadly attack.

Spokesman for Khost provincial government, Talib Mangal blamed the "enemies of peace," a reference to the Taliban outfit for the attack on the police base, saying the "enemies of peace" want to sabotage the peace process by launching subversive attacks.

Peace talks have been underway between an Afghan government negotiating team and the Taliban representatives in Doha since Sept. 12 to find a peaceful solution to the prolonged Afghan conflict, but no tangible progress has been reported yet.
