KUALA LUMPUR, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia on Saturday reported 2,451 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the national total to 133,559.
Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that five of the new cases are imported and 2,446 are local transmissions.
Another five new deaths have been reported, pushing the death toll to 542.
Another 1,401 patients have been released after recovery, bringing the total cured and discharged to 106,832, or 80 percent of all cases.
Of the remaining 26,185 active cases, 177 are being held in intensive care units and 82 of those are in need of assisted breathing. Enditem
