KUALA LUMPUR, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia recorded 3,306 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, the health ministry said on Monday, bringing the national total to 161,740.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that seven of the new cases were imported ones and 3,299 were local transmissions.

Four more deaths from the coronavirus epidemic were reported, pushing the death toll to 605.

The official data showed that 2,293 more patients were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recoveries to 122,344, or 75.6 percent of all cases.

Of the 38,791 active cases currently, 226 are being held in intensive care units with 94 of them being in need of assisted breathing. Enditem
