Rajoelina, Ravalomanana go into second round of presidential election in Madagascar

ANTANANARIVO, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Andry Rajoelina and Marc Ravalomanana went into the second round of presidential election in Madagascar, which will take place on Dec. 19, according to provisional results released Saturday by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of Madagascar.

Randriamiarimanana Safidy Onisoa, head of legal department at INEC, declared the official announcement of provisional results during a press conference, saying that the candidate of the political party "Miaraka amin'ny President Andry Rajoelina" (Together with President Andry Rajoelina), Andry Rajoelina, got 39.19 percent of votes.

She also added that candidate of "Tiako I Madagasikara" (I Love Madagascar), Marc Ravalomanana, received 35.29 percent of votes while Hery Rajaonarimampianina of "Hery Vaovao an'i Madagasikara" (the New Force of Madagascar) gained 8.84 percent.

According to Ms. Onisoa, there were 9,913,559 registered voters, 5,367,447 voters participated in the first round of election and 4,974,612 votes have been cast, with a participation rate of 54.23 percent.
