ADDIS ABABA, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Ethiopia is seeking to improve energy access in the country, and it looks forward to more cooperation and engagement of Chinese companies that could exploit the existing opportunities in the East African country, the Ethiopian State Minister of Water, Irrigation and Energy, Firehiwot Woldehana, has noted.
Speaking at the China-Africa Energy Cooperation Forum on Tuesday in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa, the State Minister said the government is working hard to improve the current situation in terms of energy access in the country, which is around 44 percent, including both grid and off-grid connections.
Noting the country's target to realize universal power supply over the next six years, Firehiwot said opportunities abound in the sector for foreign investors, including Chinese companies.
Attending the Forum, Chen Chao, chief representative of SGCC CET, told Xinhua that the event is a good platform to exchange ideas and information in the area. The company is wholly-owned subsidiary of the State Grid Corporation of China.
Chen said that the Chinese are committed to further strengthening cooperation with Africa, and Ethiopia in particular in the energy sector.
