CAIRO, April 12 (Xinhua) -- Egypt's Health Ministry confirmed on Sunday 126 new cases and 13 new deaths of COVID-19, raising the total number of cases registered in the country to 2,065, including 159 deaths.

Egyptian Health Ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed said in a statement that 21 cases were cured of the novel coronavirus and discharged from hospitals on Sunday, increasing the number of recoveries to 447.

He emphasized that all COVID-19 cases in Egypt receive necessary medical care "based on the guidelines of the World Health Organization."

Megahed noted that Egyptian Health Minister Hala Zayed held on Sunday a second video conference with the medical and administration staff of six hospitals in several provinces to make sure they have enough strategic medical supplies and protective wear.

Since mid-March, Egypt has suspended schools and universities, halted flights, cancelled sports activities, closed entertainment places and malls, stopped mass prayers and shut down museums and archeological sites to curb the spread of the virus.

The most populous Arab country is currently implementing a nationwide 10-hour nighttime curfew for two weeks until April 23.
