Morocco's foreign trade falls 17.7 pct in 1st half of 2020

RABAT, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Morocco's total foreign trade dropped by 17.7 percent in the first half of 2020, the foreign exchange regulator said on Thursday.

According to the report, the total foreign trade decreased from 44.3 billion U.S. dollars in the first semester of 2019 to 36.46 billion U.S. dollars at the same period of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Morocco's exports decreased by 18.3 percent to reach over 13.5 billion dollars, while imports deceased by 17.5 percent to reach 22.9 billion dollars.

Trade deficit narrowed by 16.2 percent to more than 9.4 billion dollars.

The foreign direct investment in Morocco declined by 7.2 percent year on year to a total of 926 million U.S. dollars between January and June, the report added. Enditem
