Tunisia announces 3,137 COVID-19 new cases, 31,259 in total

TUNIS, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian Health Ministry on Saturday reported 3,137 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of infections to 31,259 and the death toll to 456 in the country.

"The ministry also recorded 634 hospitalized COVID-19 patients, including 132 in intensive care units," said a ministry statement.

A total of 271,765 lab tests have been carried out by Oct. 9, of which 11.5 percent proved positive, according to the ministry.

Earlier in the day, the Tunisian Minister of Health Faouzi Mehdi said that Tunisia is witnessing a significant increase in the number of positive cases and deaths due to this disease.

He confirmed that the country had entered "a community infection stage" that requires more vigilance.

The minister also stressed that Tunisia will not return to another lockdown. Enditem
