CAIRO, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- A fishing boat capsized in a lake near Egypt's Mediterranean city of Alexandria, killing at least eight people, including three children and two women, the state-run Ahram newspaper reported Tuesday.

Six others were injured and three remain missing, all of whom are from one family, said the report.

Alexandria's governor, Mohamed el-Sharif, said three people were rescued and taken to hospital, adding that rescue workers were still searching for the missing in Lake Mariut, located west of Alexandria.

Most of the boats on the lake work without licenses, and the capsized one was small and overcrowded, said the governor. Enditem
