WINDHOEK, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's health minister on Wednesday called for pooling more domestic resources to combat malaria as external funding for the country's anti-malaria campaign is shrinking.
Malaria is still rampant in Namibia, especially in the north and northeast parts, said Kalumbi Shangula during the country's 2021 National Management Development Forum.
"We need to continue improving indoor residual spraying," the minister said, adding that "the strong focus should also be on disrupting cross-border transmission and rigorous community mobilization."
Namibia's ultimate objective is to protect an estimated 1.9 million people at risk of contracting malaria, Shangula said, adding that his ministry is working towards the goal of eliminating malaria in the country by 2023. Enditem
