ADDIS ABABA, March 11 (Xinhua) -- Ethiopia's national air carrier Ethiopian Airlines on Thursday announced it has transported COVID-19 vaccines from Beijing to the capital of Republic of Congo, Brazzaville.

In a press statement, Ethiopian Airlines said it transported COVID-19 vaccines from Beijing to Brazzaville on Wednesday.

"Ethiopian Airlines has operated COVID-19 vaccine delivery flights from Beijing to Brazzaville on Wednesday," Ethiopian Airlines said in a press statement.

Ethiopian Airlines is also a major cargo partner of the World Health Organization (WHO), World Food Program (WFP), donor governments and philanthropists in facilitating the flow of essential medical supplies across Africa and the wider world.

In February, Ethiopian Airlines transported the first COVID-19 vaccine shipment to an African destination.

On Sunday, Ethiopia received its first 2.2 million COVID-19 vaccines, via Ethiopian Airlines freight planes.

Africa has recorded 3,994,030 COVID-19 cases and 106,712 COVID-19 related deaths as of Thursday noon, according to the Africa CDC, the specialized healthcare agency of the African Union. Enditem
