CAIRO, March 23 (Xinhua) -- Senior Egyptian and Pakistani military officials discussed on Tuesday cooperation between the two countries in the field of military production, said the Egyptian Ministry of Military Production in a statement.

The discussion came during a meeting held in Cairo between Egyptian Minister of State for Military Production Mohamed Ahmed Morsi and a Pakistani high-level delegation led by Chairman of Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) Ali Amir Awan, according to the Egyptian statement.

They addressed ways to enhance cooperation between Egyptian military production companies and their Pakistani counterparts to achieve "strategic partnership" that would benefit the two countries.

During the meeting, Morsi stressed the "historical relations" between Egypt and Pakistan, expressing his aspiration to develop bilateral cooperation in various fields and strengthen consultation on issues of common concern, including "fighting terrorism and extremist ideology."

For his part, the POF chief expressed Pakistan's interest in strengthening partnership with Egypt, especially in the field of military production, noting state-owned POF produces a wide range of arms, ammunition and military equipment.

The two sides reviewed the proposed cooperation between Egypt's Heliopolis Company for Chemical Industries (Factory 81) and the Pakistani firearm company POF in technology transfer for manufacturing anti-tank mines, industrial explosives and other military products. Enditem
