ACCRA, May 18 (Xinhua)-- Ghana will issue enhanced COVID-19 vaccination cards to people who get their second shots in counterfeit cards crackdown, said the Ghana Health Service (GHS) on Tuesday.

Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, director-general of the GHS, told a press briefing that holograms would be imprinted on the vaccination cards of those who get their second shots for authentication.

"In some parts of the world, people show up with fraudulent vaccination cards claiming they have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 when they are not," said Kuma-Aboagye.

The director-general added that once people show up at vaccination centers, their data would be pulled up to verify whether they had already taken the first dose to ensure the cards are issued based on authentic data.

"This is the first time a vaccination demands we collect so much data about people being vaccinated. After the second dose, the system automatically prints out the enhanced COVID-19 vaccination cards," he said.

Kuma-Aboagye, however, cautioned that even those who get their second doses continue wearing face masks and observing safety protocols because "the second dose does not protect you 100 percent." Enditem
