DAR ES SALAAM, May 28 (Xinhua) -- The World Bank has approved a combined financing of 875 million U.S. dollars from the International Development Association for the implementation of education, roads, and digital projects in Tanzania.

A statement issued by the World Bank through its office in Tanzania's commercial capital Dar es Salaam on Friday said 300 million dollars will be used for upgrading rural roads to enable Tanzanians to access services and economic opportunities.

The statement said 425 million dollars will finance the strengthening of the learning environment and management of the higher education system.

According to the statement, 150 million dollars will finance a project aimed at increasing access to high-quality broadband internet services for government, businesses, and citizens, and improve the government's capacity to deliver digital public services.

"These projects prioritize such investments, which will enable households at all income levels in Tanzania to benefit from growth," said Mara Warwick, World Bank country director for Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

"Approval of the three projects reflects the World Bank's strong support to Tanzania," Hafez Ghanem, the World Bank's regional vice-president, said.

"We want to continue and even strengthen our partnership with Tanzania in its efforts to fight poverty and ensure a better living standard for its people," added Ghanem. Enditem
