ALGIERS, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Wednesday appointed members of the new cabinet after consultation with Prime Minister Aymene Benabderrahmane, official APS news agency reported.

The major changes in the cabinet reshuffle are the return of Ramtane Lamamra as the foreign minister and the appointment of Abderrachid Tebbi as the new minister of justice, APS said.

Benabderrahmane replaced outgoing Prime Minister Abdelaziz Djerad who presented the resignation of his cabinet last week, following the confirmation of the results of the June 12 parliamentary elections by the Constitutional Court.

It is worth noting that Benabderrahmane also holds the finance portfolio given his previous experience of serving as finance minister.

The nomination of this new cabinet is the result of a series of talks between President Tebboune and leaders of political parties, as well as independent candidates who grabbed seats in the new parliament.

The main challenges facing Benabderrahmane's cabinet are addressing the lasting economic and financial crisis hitting the country in recent years and curbing the COVID-19 pandemic by securing enough vaccines. Enditem
