South Sudan's inter-communal clashes kill at least 27

JUBA, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- At least 27 civilians have been killed and 29 others injured in the past two days due to inter-communal violence in South Sudan's Warrap state, a local government official confirmed on Tuesday.

Riing Deng Ading, Warrap State Minister of Information said the clashes started on Sunday between Luany-Jang community, and Lou Paher community and Thiik community.

He told Xinhua on the phone that local authorities in the state are making efforts to reinforce the security situation in the areas affected to contain the situation which is rapidly deteriorating.

Deng called on youth from the rival communities of Warrap state to cease fighting and embrace dialogue as the only solution to peace and tranquility in the region.

Since 2019, South Sudan has been experiencing a surge in communal violence in Jonglei, Warrap and Lakes states mainly due to cattle rustling, child abduction and revenge killings. Enditem
