RABAT, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- The total number of people fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in Morocco reached 12,341,745, the Moroccan Ministry of Health on Wednesday said in a statement.

So far, a total of 16,961,675 first doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Morocco, said the statement.

The North African country launched a nationwide vaccination campaign on Jan. 28 after the arrival of the first shipment of China's Sinopharm vaccines.

Meanwhile, Morocco's tally of COVID-19 infections rose to 782,097 as 9,703 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours, while the total recoveries increased by 7,197 to 688,902, the statement said.

The death toll from the coronavirus in Morocco rose by 103 to 11,345, while 2,295 people remained in intensive care units, it added. Enditem
