KABUL, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- An explosion rocked Police District 9 in the Afghan capital of Kabul on Tuesday leaving 16 people dead and wounding more than 20 others, spokesman for Interior Ministry Nasrat Rahimi said.
According to Rahimi, a suicide bomber blew his explosive device up next to an office of the defense ministry at 12:57 p.m. local time killing 16 people on the spot including himself and wounding more than 20 others.
However, eyewitnesses believed that the number of casualties could be higher than reported.
It was the second blast that targeted Afghans in a single day on Tuesday.
In the previous attack that struck a rally in Parwan province's capital Charikar city, 24 people, mostly civilians, were killed and 32 others wounded.
Taliban militants have claimed responsibility for both attacks.
