BANGKOK, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Former leader of the Future Forward Party Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit quickly formed "the Group of Future Forward" here after the Thai Constitutional Court ruled in favor to dissolve the party on Friday, pertaining to its money-lending controversy.
"We have no intention of giving up our political activities despite our party being dissolved by the Court," said Thanathorn.
"With 'the Group of Future Forward', we would keep up the campaign to get Thailand back on the road to democracy," Thanathorn said to hundreds of fans outside the party office.
Party secretary-general Piyabutr Saengkanokkul objected to the court's ruling, which also bans party executives from contesting elections for 10 years.
Piyabutr called the judges' interpretation of the law inappropriate and accused them of applying double standards.
Earlier on Friday, Thailand's Future Forward Party was dissolved under the ruling of the Constitutional Court pertaining to its money-lending controversy.
The Constitutional Court has considered the lending of 191.2 million baht (about 6.04 million U.S. dollars) provided by Thanathorn as the de facto reception by the dissolved party of donated money and not as a loan in normal business sense, which was thus concluded by the court as a breach to the 2017 constitution and political party law.
No individuals are legally allowed to donate more than 10 million baht (about 316,155 U.S. dollars) to any political party under the Thai constituion and political party law.
