GHAZNI, Afghanistan, April 25 (Xinhua) -- One civilian has been confirmed dead and 12 others including women and children sustained injuries, as a mortar shell struck a residential area in the eastern Ghazni province, provincial police said in a statement released on Saturday.

According to the statement, the mortar shell fired by the Taliban militants at 3:00 p.m. local time Friday slammed Shaliz village outside the provincial capital Ghazni city, killing one villager on the spot and wounding 12 others, including nine women and children.

Taliban militants who have intensified activities and are operational in parts of the restive Ghazni province have not commented on the incident.
