TOKYO, March 12 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Friday, following Wall Street's upbeat lead overnight, with the market mood buoyed by U.S. President Joe Biden signing the 1.9-trillion-U.S.-dollar COVID-19 relief package as Washington gears up to send direct aid to people and business reeling from the pandemic.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 112.48 points, or 0.39 percent, from Thursday to 29,324.12.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 1.58 points, or 0.08 percent, at 1,926.50.
Electric appliance, oil and coal product and metal product issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell. Enditem
