ISLAMABAD, March 29 (Xinhua) -- A Russian rafter was injured as a landslide hit a vehicle of his 11-member team in Pakistan's northern Gilgit-Baltistan region on Monday, police said.

The Russian rafters were preparing to raft in the Indus River when the accident happened. They parked their vehicle near the river and had just left it for their adventure when the landslide hit the vehicle, local police official Tanveer ul Hassan told Xinhua.

"The 11 Russians were escorted by tourist policemen who called the ambulance and shifted the injured rafter to a hospital in Skardu where his condition is stable," he said.

The police official said that the injured rafter was hit by stones on his feet while the other 10 people remained unhurt and were transferred back to their camps by the police and rescue teams.

The Russians started rafting in the Indus River near Skardu area on Saturday and had a plan to cover a distance of over 150 km by Wednesday, he said.

Their vehicle was destroyed in the incident, the official said. Enditem
