Over 140,000 COVID-19 tests conducted in Laos

VIENTIANE, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Laos has conducted 140,510 tests for COVID-19 since January 2020, with 49 of them being positive, according to a report by the Lao Ministry of Health on Friday.

Laos has been carrying out tests on a daily basis to detect the coronavirus infections, it said. Among the people tested, 49 have been confirmed to be infected with the novel coronavirus.

A total of 47 COVID-19 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, showed the official data.

On Thursday, a total of 2,709 people entered Laos through international border checkpoints. Of them, 1,997 were from Thailand, 74 from China, and 638 from Vietnam.

The temperature of each person entering Laos was checked and no one showed signs of fever.

The National Taskforce Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control announced that it's currently monitoring 4,831 people at 36 accommodation centers across the country.

The Lao government has warned people countrywide not to neglect containment and prevention measures against the pandemic.

Laos reported its first two confirmed cases of COVID-19 on March 24 last year. Enditem
