ISLAMABAD, April 15 (Xinhua) -- The Pakistani government on Thursday banned the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) over terrorism charges following the religious political party's violent protests across the country earlier this week, which spread fear among the countrymen, said the Ministry of Interior.
A notification, issued after the approval of the federal cabinet, said the government has put the party on the list of proscribed organization because it has reasonable grounds to believe that the TLP "is engaged in terrorism, acted in a manner prejudicial to the peace and security of the country, involved in creating anarchy in the country."
Earlier on Thursday, Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad told the media that the government had tried its best to resolve matters through negotiations but TLP's leadership was not ready to listen to logical reasons.
The minister appreciated the services of police and other law enforcement personnel to restore peace, saying at least two police personnel were killed by the protesters and 580 other police personnel were injured.
Tens of thousands of protestors came out and blocked roads after the government arrested the chief of the TLP who is demanding the expulsion of the French ambassador from the country over religious issues.
Earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Imran Khan told a ceremony that it was the responsibility of the state to ensure the protection of the public against riots and also establish the writ of the state. Enditem
