KATHMANDU, April 16 (Xinhua) -- The National Fine Arts Exhibition-2021 has been held at the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) here, displaying the rich culture of the Himalayan country.
The exhibition organized by NAFA displays 499 artworks by 447 artists from different parts of Nepal with paintings, sculptures, installations, photography, cartoons and handicrafts.
A month long exhibition, which opened on Thursday, was inaugurated by the President of Nepal Bidhya Devi Bhandari.
Speaking at an inaugural event of the exhibition, Bhandari lauded the Academy's work, saying Despite of hurdles like devastating earthquake, COVID-19 pandemic, and lack of infrastructures. NAFA has been doing remarkable works for the development of fine arts.
"Nepal is rich in art and culture. Our native art such as thangka painting, mandala painting, paubha painting, ancient sculpture and architecture depict the process of civilization and tradition of our ancient society. NAFA should play a leadership role to study and research about the Nepali art and to promote authentic Nepali art in international level," said the president.
Curator of the exhibition Manish Lal Shrestha said, "Managing a national level exhibition in a limited space and making them pleasant was difficult for us, but we categorized artworks and placed them in accordingly."
