DHAKA, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh has extended the ongoing lockdown to May 5.
Bangladesh's Cabinet Division announced the decision in a circular Wednesday.
To combat COVID-19, Bangladesh had earlier declared an eight-day lockdown effective from April 14 to April 21. Later, the government extended it to April 28.
Despite the lockdown, according to the circular, shops and malls will be allowed to open their doors while factories and banks to operate as before.
The latest order said returnees from the Middle East, Singapore, Malaysia and China without COVID-19 infection and with vaccination certificates can be quarantined for 14-day at their homes.
But it said passengers from other countries will be quarantined for 14 days at a government-designated hotel at their own expense.
Amid its second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, Bangladesh imposed a ban on the entry of travellers from India via land ports from Monday.
On Wednesday, the country's Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported 2,955 new cases of COVID-19 and 77 new deaths, bringing the number of total cases to 754,614 and the total death toll to 11,305. Enditem
