BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Brunei's overall Consumer Price Index (CPI) in March 2021 increased by 1.8 percent year-on-year, according to the latest statistical figures released on Friday.

The Department of Economic Planning and Statistics at the Ministry of Finance and Economy said the rise was mainly attributed to increases in the prices and costs of transport (5.9 percent); food and non-alcoholic beverages (3.6 percent); and communication (2.6 percent).

Meanwhile, on a monthly basis, the CPI recorded an increase of 0.3 percent compared to February.

CPI is a measure of price changes of goods and services paid by the consumer in a specified period. Brunei's list of goods and services in the CPI is based on the average expenditure per household. Enditem
