ULAN BATOR, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia reported 553 new COVID-19 infections over the past 24 hours, along with five more deaths linked to the virus, said the country's health ministry on Saturday.

As a result, the total number of infected people in the country reached 48,101, and the pandemic death toll rose to 217, the ministry said in a statement.

Meanwhile, 1,234 more COVID-19 patients have recovered, bringing the total recoveries to 39,564.

The Asian country launched a COVID-19 vaccination campaign across the country in late February, with the aim of vaccinating at least 60 percent of its 3.3 million people.
