NEW DELHI, May 22 (Xinhua) -- At least four workers were killed and one was injured after an under-construction tunnel collapsed in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, officials said Saturday.

Officials said India's state-run National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) is carrying out the construction of an electric project and three diversion tunnels of about 600 meters were under construction there.

"Last evening one of the tunnels caved in while drilling work was underway in the tunnel. Five workers were trapped under the debris, of which four were killed and one injured," an official said. "There was no other worker present at the spot at the time of the mishap."

Following the incident, rescue teams were rushed to the spot to pull out the victims.

"The bodies have been retrieved and the injured admitted to a hospital," the official said. Enditem
