NEW DELHI, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Thursday that his government was increasing oxygen storage capacity in the Indian capital so that there is no shortage of oxygen in case of a possible third wave of COVID-19 pandemic.

Kejriwal said three oxygen storage plants with a total capacity of 171 MT have been installed so far in the city to prepare for a possible third wave of COVID-19.

"The Delhi government is rapidly making arrangements in case a third wave comes. In the second wave, the biggest challenge that was faced was shortage of oxygen, because of which the people of Delhi had to struggle a lot for a few days. Therefore, the preparations for that are being made (so) that in case a third wave emerges then there should be no shortage of oxygen," Kejriwal told the media.

The chief minister said a 57 MT cryogenic tank was being set up for storage along with an oxygen generation plant of 2.5 tonnes per day capacity at Siraspur.

"Today, we are standing in front of the 57 MT oxygen storage center in Siraspur. Two more oxygen storage centers have been made in Babasaheb Ambedkar hospital and the Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital. So, three oxygen storage tanks of 57 MT capacity each, a total of 171 MT have been installed in Delhi," Kejriwal said.

Indian capital region has faced an acute shortage of life-saving gas during the second wave of COVID-19. Many patients suffering from COVID-19 infection died due to shortage of oxygen in the hospitals.

Federal health ministry on Thursday morning said 337 fresh COVID-19 cases and 36 related deaths were registered in the past 24 hours across Delhi. Enditem
