PHNOM PENH, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia could face flash flooding in the capital Phnom Penh and several other provinces from Sept. 8 to 14, said a statement from the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology on Tuesday.

According to the weather forecast, the kingdom will suffer from the impacts of depressions, southwest monsoon, and sea breeze that will cause moderate-to-heavy rains, thunderstorms, strong winds, and high sea waves, the statement said.

"Phnom Penh and the provinces of Battambang, Pursat, Kampong Thom, Kampong Chhnang, Kampong Speu, Kandal and Svay Rieng could face rainwater flooding," it said, plus three other coastal provinces, namely Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk and Kampot.

The statement advised the public to be extra vigilant during the above-mentioned period to avoid any possible danger and property damage.

Floods usually hit the Southeast Asian nation between August and October. Last year, flash floods claimed 43 lives and forced the evacuations of 47,580 others, according to a National Committee for Disaster Management report. Enditem
