JAKARTA, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian government said on Tuesday that it will provide 3 million U.S. dollars of aid to Afghanistan.

"Indonesia is committed to providing aid amounting to 3 million dollars to assist the Afghan people. The funds will be channeled via local trusted partners," Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said in a written statement.

Around 2.85 million dollars will be used to support Afghanistan's development in the next three years, with priority in the sectors of health, education, women's empowerment and mining sectors, Marsudi said.

Meanwhile, the remaining 150,000 dollars will be allocated for humanitarian assistance in emergency situations.

"The safety and livelihood of the Afghan people are our top priorities," the foreign minister stressed.

A high-level meeting on the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan was convened virtually by the United Nations on Monday to appeal for humanitarian assistance for Afghanistan. Enditem
