KIEV, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- Celebrations for China's upcoming Spring Festival kicked off in Ukraine with Chinese and Ukrainian students performing at a concert on Friday night, providing attendees with a vivid glimpse of China's abundant cultural features and traditions.

Organized by the Union of Chinese Students in Ukraine, the concert featured Chinese and Ukrainian students performing traditional Chinese folk songs and popular modern songs.

The concert, which is held for the third year in Borys Grynchenko Kiev University, is designed to strengthen cultural exchanges between young people from both countries.

Addressing the event, Victor Ognevyuk, the university's rector, said the celebrations of the Spring Festival had become a tradition at his school.

The Spring Festival, or Chinese Lunar New Year, falls on Jan. 25, 2020.

A Chinese lantern festival is being held in central Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, to celebrate the upcoming New Year and Chinese Spring Festival.

Over 30 large installations illuminated from inside will create a festive mood over the next two months at the Giant Chinese Lantern Festival which opened in Spivoche Pole Park in central Kiev.

The festival is made up of animation areas, a holiday fair, a weekend Santa Claus show, a food court with Chinese cuisine and a tea ceremony.
