Ireland's January goods exports to China up nearly 44 pct

DUBLIN, March 17 (Xinhua) -- Ireland exported a total of 797 million euros (about 876 million U.S. dollars ) worth of goods to China including Hong Kong and Macao in January 2020, up by 43.6 percent compared with the same month last year, according to the latest figures released by the country's Central Statistics Office (CSO).

In the month, Ireland's goods imports from China were valued at 484 million euros, up almost 3 percent over a year ago, showed the CSO figures.

The trade surplus that Ireland enjoyed over China in January 2020 stood at 313 million euros, an increase of 229 million euros over the trade surplus figure of 84 million euros recorded in January 2019.

In the first month of this year, China ranked as the fifth largest goods trade partner of Ireland both in terms of exports and imports, revealed the CSO figures.

The CSO January figures also showed that machinery and transport equipment accounted for the lion's share in both exported and imported goods traded between China and Ireland.

In the month, Ireland exported 607 million euros worth of machinery and transport equipment to China while its imports of such goods from China were valued at 251 million euros.

Food and live animals were Ireland's second largest category of goods exported to China. In January, Ireland exported a total of 77 million euros worth of such goods to China, up nearly 43 percent year-on-year.

Ireland's total goods exports and imports in January were valued at 14.65 billion euros and 7.1 billion euros respectively. (1 euro=1.1 U.S. dollars)
