BUDAPEST, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- A new and regular cargo flight connecting the Hungarian capital to China's Zhengzhou has been launched, according to a statement from Budapest Airport.

Hainan Airlines' Airbus A330-300 type aircraft landed at Ferenc Liszt International Airport in the early hours on Oct. 21, according to the statement released Thursday.

From now on, the airline will connect Budapest with Zhengzhou, the capital city of China's Henan province, three times a week, said the statement.

Budapest Airport also noted that Hainan Airlines launched the new flight as part of the sister airport agreement concluded between Budapest Airport and the Henan Civil Aviation Development & Investment Co Ltd. (HNCA) last May, with the aim of increasing cargo traffic between China and Central Europe.

According to the airport, despite the global downturn caused by the coronavirus pandemic, Budapest Airport handled 95,590 tons of cargo in total from January to September, which is only 2.7 percent less than the volume in the same period of 2019.

"The new flight launched by Hainan Airlines demonstrates that cargo traffic at the BUD Cargo City and Budapest Airport has remained stable and strong during the pandemic, which plays a key role in the Hungarian national economy as well," the airport stressed. Enditem
