NEW YORK, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- The eastern Chinese province of Jiangsu and the northeastern U.S. state of New York commemorated the 30th anniversary of their sister state relationship in New York City on Tuesday.
Jiangsu and New York state have seen growing exchanges in culture, education, bioscience and agriculture, among other areas, during the past 30 years, said Wang Jiang, vice governor of Jiangsu Province, who led a delegation here for the celebration held in a downtown Manhattan hotel.
The two sides will treasure their time-tested friendship and continue to further enhance cooperation in trade, investment, innovation, people-to-people exchanges and high-level exchanges in order to achieve more win-win results, Wang added.
Calling the celebration a "family event," Kathy Hochul, lieutenant governor of New York state, said she's "excited about this opportunity to reinforce the strong family ties," and highlighted people-to-people exchanges between the two sides.
Hochul lauded Jiangsu's long history, beautiful landscape, and the economic transformation and technological advances the province has achieved in the past few decades.
The delegation also highlighted cultural tourism in Jiangsu, promoting pictures of World Heritage Sites in the province, such as the Suzhou gardens and the Grand Canal. Famous traditional handicrafts including Nanjing paper-cutting were also displayed.
A series of memorandums of understanding were also signed during the event to further enhance friendly exchanges and cooperation between the two sides.
