U.S. stocks open higher despite U.S. tariff offensive

NEW YORK, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks opened higher on Tuesday as some of major tech shares rose despite Washington's latest tariff offensive against Beijing.

Shortly after the opening bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 59.32 points, or 0.23 percent, to 26,121.44. The S&P 500 was up 6.45 points, or 0.22 percent, to 2,895.25. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 30.18 points, or 0.38 percent, to 7,925.97.

Tech sector climbed more than 0.5 percent in early trading. Shares of U.S. streaming services provider Netflix gained more than 2.2 percent. Shares of Amazon and Apple advanced more than 1.5 percent.

Trade-sensitive stocks Caterpillar and Boeing rose 1.78 percent and 0.78 percent, respectively, shortly after the opening bell.

U.S. stocks tumbled on Monday as steep losses in the biggest tech shares weighed on the market amid global trade tensions.
