KIEV, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine is preparing sanctions in the wake of the Sunday's elections in insurgent-controlled areas in eastern regions, Oleksandr Turchynov, head of the country's National Security and Defense Council, said on Thursday.
"It will be a powerful package of diverse sanctions, including (measures) against those who were the leaders, masterminds and organizers of the fake so-called elections," Turchynov was quoted as saying by Interfax-Ukraine news agency.
The official did not rule out that representatives of European countries, who observed the elections, will also be put on the sanction list.
On Sunday, the conflict-hit Donetsk and Lugansk regions, together known as Donbas, elected new "presidents" and members of "parliaments" of the self-proclaimed republics.
Ukraine has voiced protest in the wake of the elections, saying that their results will be "null" and "void" and would have no legal consequences.
