BANGKOK, Nov.7 (Xinhua) -- The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will open 30 public parks throughout the capital city until late evening of the upcoming Monday for people to visit and float banana-leaf baskets on the waters in Loy Krathong festival.

BMA Governor Assawin Khwanmuang confirmed on Wednesday the 30 parks with ponds inside will especially open to members of the public in the Loy Krathong festival from early morning until late in the evening of Monday for the annual basket-floating festival.

Those Bangkok parks are viewed as alternatives to canals and rivers of the capital city where people would usually attend the distinctive tradition.

Assawin said the fun-filled festival will be highlighted at venues under Rama VIII Bridge on the bank of Chao Phraya River in Bang Phlat district and along Ong Ang canal in Phra Nakhon district and Samphanthawong district.

Festival goers, either Thai or foreign, will be strongly suggested to not buy or use any basket made of foam and only use degradable vessels such as banana leaves.
