KABWE, Zambia, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Zambia's Kabwe town in Central Province and Pingxiang city of China's Jiangxi Province on Friday signed a twinning program agreement which will see the two cooperating on various areas.
Kabwe Mayor Prince Chileshe and Li Jianghe, mayor of the Chinese city signed the agreement during a ceremony held at the Civic Center.
Chileshe said the signing of the agreement heralds a great milestone in which the town and the city will cooperate on various areas to the mutual benefit of the people.
He said the twining program will help attract investment from the Chinese city and boost exchange of ideas.
The Zambian mayor, who described the agreement as a step in the right direction, noted that the southern African nation needs such twinning programs in order to learn from what others were doing in different parts of the world.
"It will foster mutual understanding in various sectors. The twinning program will not only be a bedrock of cementing friendship but also a step in promoting investment," he said.
On his part, the Chinese mayor said the agreement will help the the city and the town cooperate on various areas of mutual benefit.
He said the two towns share a lot in common in terms of industries and that the agreement will help the two towns explore various areas of mutual interest.
