Brunei reports 2 COVID-19 deaths as daily cases exceed 100 for 6 straight days

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- Brunei reported two COVID-19 related deaths and 110 new cases on Tuesday, bringing the national tally to seven deaths and 1,983 confirmed cases.

According to Brunei's Ministry of Health, the late patients were an 85-year-old local female and a 69-year-old local male, who were admitted at the National Isolation Center on Aug. 14 and Aug. 22, separately. Both patients suffered from lung infections after being infected with COVID-19.

The health ministry said the new cases include 107 local infections and three imported cases. While the source of infection of 46 local cases is still under investigation, there are a total of 40 active clusters, including two new clusters confirmed on Tuesday.

It also marked the sixth consecutive day that daily new cases exceeded 100 since Aug. 19.

There are currently 1,508 active cases being treated and monitored at the National Isolation Center, with four of them in critical condition requiring respiratory assistance and 27 other patients under close monitoring.

Brunei also reported 32 recoveries on Tuesday. There have been a total of 468 recovered patients reported so far in the country. Enditem
